A week from now, I will be close to landing in Beijing. Wow. Time is seriously flying towards that date. Everyone keeps asking me if I am getting excited. Honestly, I don't think I am. I realize what an amazing opportunity this is, and that is exciting. I'm definitely excited about the experience I will gain, but don't see how I can be excited about GOING. I dread it to be perfectly honest. I just simply don't want to be away from my family for a month. But I will. My family will be here when I get back, but will I have another chance to do this? More than likely not. I must go. There is no rule that says I have to be excited is there?
The other night there was a House Hunters International on TV, and it just so happened to be in Chengdu. We watched it together as a family. Well, that just brought the whole thing smack into my face. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried. The boys were asking me questions, and I just could not handle it. They both came over and gave me a hug that was very reassuring coming from two young boys. That will definitely be a moment I will always remember.
On a lighter note, I have been reading a book that Trace Skeen, VP of GMR gave all of us going to China titled, 'Lost on Planet China'. It is a very entertaining book, save for the random history lessons on China that are interspersed throughout the book. It is a very lighthearted tale of someones' experiences in China as he travels throughout to find a place for his family to live. His experiences really baffle me. Apparently, everyone hocks loogies everywhere all the time. Everyone smokes. Everyone pushes and shoves when any semblance of a line is supposed to be present. People everywhere. Children urinating and defecating in public places. FASCINATING! I suppose this will be the most interesting part of the trip, experiencing the people and the culture.
That is when this blog will become interesting! As of now, it is just me rambling on about how sad I am to leave and a few things here and there about getting ready for the trip. Concerning my readiness, I am moving swiftly towards that goal, recently acquiring some new luggage and the converters and adapters necessary for me to take my PS3 and racing wheel I will take for sanity. Let us just hope that the ones I purchased are the right ones! A long month it would be without Gran Turismo! I also will take many DVDs for the same reason. Our hotel has a pretty decent gym, or so they say, a heated indoor pool and a jacuzzi. Those are the places I will spend most of my time when I am not out exploring this very foreign country of China.
Well, my frosty beverage is complete so it is time to say goodnight!
